Privacy policy

Your privacy is important to us. We have developed rigorous standards that are set out in our privacy policy below.

QArk makes reasonable efforts to keep the personal information in its possession or control that it is used on an on-going basis, accurate, complete, current and relevant, based on the most recent information available to us. We rely on you to help us keep your personal information accurate, complete and current by answering our questions honestly.

You are able to review and amend the personal information we use on a daily basis to operate the QArk Panel on your Members page.

To request access to any other personal information that we hold about you, we will need to make a request in writing at the e-mail address or postal address shown below (Contact Us).

We will provide this information and allow you to correct, amend or delete it, except in the following circumstances where:

  • providing access to your personal information would be likely to reveal personal information about others
  • disclosing the information would reveal confidential commercial information about QArk or its clients
  • the burden or expense of providing access would be disproportionate to the risks to your privacy in the case in question

We will endeavour to provide your requested personal information within 30 days of receiving your access request. If we cannot fulfil your request, we will provide you with a written explanation of why we had to deny your access request.

Certain personal information is categorised by the 1998 Act as "Sensitive Personal Data" as defined by the 1998 Act. In some circumstances most likely for specific research, QArk may ask you to give us some of your "sensitive personal data". Unless we are already permitted to process this information under provisions of the 1998 Act, we will specifically ask for your consent to do so.

On the rare occasions where we might ask for this sensitive personal data, it is likely to be limited to information in connection with:

  • your political opinions
  • your sexual life
  • offences you have committed or are alleged to have committed

You are always at liberty to refuse to give this information, and this will in no way harm your membership of the QArk Panel.

This page contains information on what 'cookies' are, the cookies used by the QArk website, how to switch cookies off in your browser, and some useful links for further reading on the subject.

What are 'cookies'?

'Cookies' are small text files that are stored by the browser (for example, Internet Explorer or Safari) on your computer or mobile phone. They allow websites to store things like user preferences. You can think of cookies as providing a 'memory' for the website, so that it can recognise you when you come back and respond appropriately.

How does the QArk website use cookies?

A visit to a page on the QArk website may generate the following types of cookie:

  • Site performance cookies
  • Anonymous analytics cookies

Site performance cookies

This type of cookie remembers your preferences for tools found on the QArk website, so you don't have to re-set them each time you visit. Examples include:

  • volume settings for our video player
  • whether you see the latest or the oldest article comments first
  • video streaming speeds that are compatible with your browser

Anonymous analytics cookies

Every time someone visits our website, software provided by another organisation generates an 'anonymous analytics cookie'. These cookies can tell us whether or not you have visited the site before. Your browser will tell us if you have these cookies and, if you don't, we generate new ones. This allows us to track how many individual users we have, and how often they visit the site. We use cookies to gather statistics, for example, the number of visits to a page.

How do I turn cookies off?

It is usually possible to stop your browser accepting cookies, or to stop it accepting cookies from a particular website. All modern browsers allow you to change your cookie settings. You can usually find these settings in the 'options' or 'preferences' menu of your browser. To understand these settings, the following links may be helpful, or you can use the 'Help' option in your browser for more details.
